Introduction

Potassium persulfate is the inorganic compound with the formula K2S208. Also known as potassium peroxydisulfate or KPS, it is a white solid that is sparingly soluble in cold water, but dissolves better in warm water. This salt is a powerful oxidant, commonly used to initiate polymerizations. lt is often used as a strong oxidizer and has the folowing usages：
(1) Used while rinsing or cleaning the surface of metal with acid;
(2) Accelerate the processing procedure of low concentration formalin binder;
(3) Used as a regulator while producing amylum and applied to the production of binder or paint;
(4) Used as desizing agent or active bleaching agent;
(5) For hair dye, as a principal ingredient with discoloring function.
(6) Used as oxidizer for remediation of envionmental protection.
Fujian Zhanhua's current annual production capacity of Potassium persulfate is more than 12,000MT.

Storage

KPS (PPS) is not combustible but assists combustion materials due to release of oxygen. Provided it is stored under appropriate condition. It must be stored dry in closed containers and protected from direct sunlight, heat and humidity. Impurities such as dirt, rust or traces of metal and reductants may cause catalytic decomposition. The product as supplied or in solution needs to be handled with approprate care. The eye, skin and clothes must be protected when working with KPS (PPS). KPS (PPS) as damp powder or aqueous solution has a bleaching and slightly corroding effec.

Application

Polymerization: Initiator for the emulsion or solution Polymerization of acrylic monomers, vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride etc. and for the emulsion co-polymerization of styrene, acrylonitrile, butadiene etc.
Metal treatment: Treatment of metal surfaces(e.g. in the manufacture of semiconductors;
cleaning and etching of printed circuits),activation of copper and aluminium surfaces.
Cosmetics: Essential component of bleaching formulations.
Paper: modification of starch,repulping of wet - strength paper.
Textile: Desizing agent and bleach activator - particularly for cold bleaching.(i.e.bleaching of Jeans).
